Following the huge success of its summer series St John’s Ashfield will again showcase an exciting and varied line-up of free outdoor films in its historic graveyard.
Organiser and church member Phil Harding believes inner west residents have every reason to be excited about this new venture.
“Over 1,000 people came to Cinema in the Cemetery earlier this year, so we are thrilled to continue this popular outdoor event and show some great movies under the stars on a crisp winter’s night!”
The winter season of Cinema in the Cemetery runs for three consecutive Friday nights from 16 July.
A new initiative is the move to support local charities. Phil says, “each night there will be a gold coin donation for some terrific charities within our local community, including Anglicare's Aging Carers Support Unit in Ashfield and local hostels.”
Cinema in the Cemetery once again offers an exciting and edgy film line-up.
Friday July 16 will be a family night featuring Up, Pixar's touching tale of elderly adventure.
Friday July 23 will be a double feature starting with Frankenstein, the atmospheric 1931 original, followed by Planet 9 from Outer Space, labeled the worst movie of all time.
The three week series will conclude on Friday July 30 with the 80s time-travel classic Back to the Future.
St John’s church and cemetery dates back to the 1840s and includes a number of notable graves, including members of the First Fleet.
St John's Cemetery is at 81 Alt St Ashfield. Arrive at 7:30pm. Hot chocolate will be available - BYO mug. In case of rain, the movie will be shown in the church building. For more information go to www.cciw.org.au.
